The government are currently planning new eco towns. The BedZED development was one the first on the scene.

The bedZED development aimed for zero carbon over a development of 82 homes, including some social housing.
They are arranged in south facing terraces, have roof gardens, recycle waste water and are heated by a combined heat power unit fuelled by off cuts from tree surgery.
They also have a green transport policy with pedestrian priority and a car club and aim eventually to power up to 40 cars from PV cells on the roof.
