Self Sufficientish City Foraging

Andy and Dave Hamilton have started hosting guided city foraging in Bristol. They can show you masses of plants on your doorstep you can eat but you might not have noticed before!

On 6th October, ten of us set off with them for the day to be joined by a film crew in the afternoon (for Irish TV station RTE with Baz Ashmawy presenting, being aired next May).

It wasn’t planned but everyone arrived on foot or by bike apart from the film crew, which was fitting with the whole spirit of the day! We took a leisurely walk through streets and sub-countryside, all within easy walking distance of Bristol City Farm in St Werburghs.

Along the way, Andy and Dave produced enticing produce they’d made, demonstrating uses for some of the plants we came across. The ethos isn’t to try and produce complete meals from foraged food but to enhance our appreciation of the edible plants around us by introducing foraged food in salads, condiments and drinks.

We came away inspired!
