This story has been performed in various venues across the UK to considerable effect. It is free for you to use and suits a variety of situations from discussions to worship where a Christian spirituality is welcome
The Prodigal Civilisation is a retelling of the story of the Prodigal son and concerns a civilisation that ‘squandered its inheritance’ in the earth, that went into crisis and finally ‘returned home’ to a vision of God surrounded by all the creatures of the earth.

Found this very powerful when it was used in one of the “Holy Ground” sessions. Strangely (and it’s very odd that things happen like this!), our Thursday evening group - we’ve yet to come up with a name - has just started to use Henri Nouwen’s book “The Return of the Prodigal Son” as a basis for our informal chats over the weekly meal. It tells of Nouwen’s “long spiritual adventure” that started when he first came across Rembrandt’s painting of the subject - as you’ve illustrated - and was instrumental (at least in part) in him resigning from his teaching position at Harvard University to work with mentally handicapped people. We’ve just started it - I’ll keep you posted!
Encouraging one another to journey towards a life more in tune with the earth.
