Yuletide Solitude: An Invitation

Categories: EarthAbbey |

EarthAbbey Member, Amanda Miles, runs Breathing Space, which ‘seeks to nurture contemplative practice, encourage the creative spirit and cultivate an affinity with the natural world.’ Here she extends an invitation to temporarily escape the hustle and bustle which seems to pervade the run up to Christmas.

December can be stuffed fuller than a Christmas turkey. On top of all the things to do, the tyranny of the ‘shoulds’, ‘musts’ and ‘oughts’, lurks a complex web of expectations from family, friends, work and the wider social community. No time for anything else.

This is precisely why we’re inviting you to sabotage the whole whirlwind rush by booking in times for ‘Solitude’ here in the Breathing Space Yurt.

We have invited author and retreat leader Simon Parke to sit with us and lead us into stillness and solitude.

In his latest book ‘Solitude: recovering the power of alone’, Simon describes solitude as the active path to inner silence. It is about coming home to ourselves and being deeply at home within ourselves.

We are delighted that Simon can be with us and lead us deeper into ‘Solitude’ whatever the busyness or the loneliness of our outer situation seems like. There will be space for discussion, responses and questions.

It’s a three part journey on three Thursday nights in December: 8th, 15th and 22nd from 7.30 - 9.30pm.

Home-made cakes, mince-pies, mulled wine and hot-chocolate included. The yurt is warm and cosy and has a natural aesthetic.

We have begun to take bookings - why not join us?

Bookings and further details can be found on the Breathing Space website: Breathing Space

[Obviously not all EarthAbbey Members will find it practical to join Breathing Space on these three Thursdays, but we hope that you are inspired by what Amanda is doing and will find your own opportunity to take time to contemplate everything this season has to offer - Ed.]
