Hello there. How goes? I’m very interested in environmental issues and spirituality. I came across your website and I was wondering what earthabbey was all about. What is the ethos of earthabby, and what kind of things do you do?

God bless,

Brother Bliss <><

Ah ha, a fellow human being  grin Yes I read the prospectus, I must admit it sounds very exciting. I was wondering what form this intentional community was taking. Rumour has it that earthabbey are forming an eco community in a house here in Bristol. I was hoping to find out a bit more about the hopes, aspirations and ethos of such a community.

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! Psalms 133:1

It is just a rumour at this stage and if the community house project materialises it will be exploring the very central question of ‘how to live more in tune with the earth’.

Hopes and aspirations would be in harmony with the bullet points listed on the homepage of this website but more than that I can say that it would be putting into practice the ethics and principals of permaculture. Communities are very journey like and we’re not leaping into anything without giving it a great deal of thought.

Those leading the whole EarthAbbey project have very useful experience with such endeavours and our primary aim is the EarthAbbey community as a whole. If this project comes off it will be because it is right in every way for the whole community and the future of EarthAbbey – and it may not be a classic shared community house, it may take as its focus a nurturing role for developing EarthAbbey members as well as working in ways with the wider community.

Thank you, it certainly sounds like a really great project. Its amazing what people can do when they come together, I hope and pray that it becomes a reality and is a success. I think that it is vitally important that Christians, as well as everyone else, does something significant to address environmental issues and sustainability. Modern life is so wasteful, and I don’t think that that is being good stewards of the earth. I look forward to hearing more about this project and how this community will work with the environment. In my view the gospel has got to be good news to all of creation not just humans, it would seem that St Paul agrees as “The creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed… to be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God” (Romans 8:19-21). That must begin now. It is crucial that Christians embrace an environmental ethic as part of our message because it certainly seems to be in line with God’s mission of redemption and restoration of all things.
