What is the story so far

EarthAbbey began as an idea made public in December 2008. It attracted widespread interest and some very positive affirmation. The experiences of the last eighteen months have given insights into what people are, and are not, looking for in their association with EarthAbbey.
Our original booklet about EarthAbbey described various practical projects, some of which have never seen the light of day, while others, like Grow Zones and The Walled Garden project,  have developed spontaneously from our experience on the ground.

The booklet also described a funding scenario that positioned EarthAbbey, like any other membership organisation, as a body that attempts to grow its membership base in order to service a paid staff. We have reconsidered this and a cooperative structure based primarily on voluntary contribution is now our preferred way forward.

While nothing about our original purposes has changed in substance, much has changed in our perception about how to express these things and organise EarthAbbey in practical terms. These FAQs are an attempt to set out more clearly than before exactly what EarthAbbey is about and what it might try to be.

We appreciate feedback and input into this from existing members and anyone who is interested in the community.
